Tips for outdoor lighting
Buying outdoor lighting is not something you do every day, so once you have made your purchase you want to be able to enjoy it for many years. For that reason it is important to bear a number of factors in mind before making a decision. The following tips will help you create the perfect lighting for your garden!
Carefully integrate the lighting points in the design of your garden by making a lighting plan.
Remember the various applications for which lighting can be used, such as functional lighting, accent lighting, and atmospheric lighting.
Too much lighting in a garden will undermine the desired effect and is no guarantee for the right atmosphere. A very special effect can be created by having a contrast between illuminated and dark areas.
Integrated lighting from the Integrated series and high fixtures from the Solitary series are the basis for any lighting plan. By using fixtures from the Wall or Spot series you can create individual accents.
When deciding on the location of the light points, bear the strength of the lamps and the light colour in mind. Yellow light is warm and romantic, while white light is modern and contemporary and emphasises the architectural lines of a garden.
Light becomes visible when it illuminates an object and creates a spatial effect in the furthest corner of your garden.
The distance between strong lamps should be greater than that of weaker ones.
Garden lighting should not be blinding. It is therefore important that it is in keeping with the lines of vision in your garden. Light from above, such as from a wall fixture, does not generally have a blinding effect. If the lamp is not too strong, you can direct your eyes underneath it. Lighting from the ground too, over which your line of sight passes, is unlikely to be blinding.
Are you still unsure as to where to put your integrated lighting? Then try putting tea candles on the locations you have in mind. That will give you a good impression of the end result.
You can also experiment by adjusting the heights of the Solitary fixtures. Placing higher fixtures towards the back of the garden will create a playful effect and enhance the feeling of depth of the garden in the evening.
